~ FROM FATHER DOUGLAS ~

Dear People of St Andrew's Parish,
I hope you are having a blessed Eastertide.
The photo here is Sister Mary Lanning's nieces and nephew dropping off all of our Maundy Thursday offerings at Abraham House in the South Bronx, as well as Althea Brooks, who is Abraham House's Executive Director. As those of you who attended the 10:30 service this past Sunday are aware, Mary's relatives were with us. They offered a tender and moving tribute to Mary, had a chance to meet many of us and then loaded up two cars with shoes, sneakers and socks and drove them to the city.
Here is the note that Mary's nephew Greg sent us on Monday:
Fr Douglas,
Thank you for a wonderful morning yesterday. It was so nice to realize a place that Mary so loved and WAS so loved. The quaintness of your parish makes the feeling of togetherness so tangible. I felt Mary’s presence in just being there but in the words shared by several people.
The donations were spectacular in abundance and were brought to Abraham House in the South Bronx. We spent time there and received a tour from Althea Brooks. We learned of many wonderful programs within AH and also some that the employees/volunteers at AH provide for the surrounding community. The footwear donated will go to good use, I am sure!
Please express to your parish how thankful we were to be able to complete this task and in turn bring some joy to our brothers/sisters of the surrounding community. We are Mary’s heart and will continue to do her work as she would have wanted. Please stay in touch and stay safe!!
Greg

And here is the thank-you that Althea Brooks sent the same day:
Hi Fr Douglas,
I would like to echo everything that Greg mentioned in his email. Thank you, and please pass on my gratitude to the parishioners of St Andrew’s for their thoughtfulness and compassion, a few of the many wonderful traits shared with our dear Sr Mary. These shoes and socks are indeed a blessing to those we serve. We will be distributing them this week, and hope to be able to take a few pictures that we can forward to you.
Greg, Monica, Sydney and the rest of the Lanning family: Thank you so much for picking up and delivering the bounty to us, I know Sr Mary is so proud of all of you, and thank you for carrying on her life's work to serve those in need.
Be well – and thanks again!
Althea

How blessed we are, indeed, to have made these wonderful new connections, via dear Mary, and also to have had the opportunity to share the charity, joy and hope of the Resurrection in such a tangible, meaningful way. Thank you all again!
Take good care, and may God continue to bless the work of the Kingdom you are doing.
In the peace and love of Christ,
Douglas+

- “Half a Century: 1957 to 2009, an Anecdotal Account of St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church” which picks up the story of St. Andrew’s through the voices of parishioners.

Prayer List
Please contact Fr Douglas if you would like to add a name to our parish Prayer List. You can email him at frdouglas.sak@gmail.com or call him at 860-592-0171. It is helpful to indicate how long you would like the name to be kept on the list. We remember the faithful departed during the two weeks after their deaths, and on those Sundays when you ask for their names to be included.
