The Prayer List is used by the clergy at all public celebrations of the Eucharist and in private devotion. Nothing we do at St. Andrew’s is more important than our offering of prayers of both intercession and thanksgiving, and additions to the Prayer List are always welcome. First names suffice; full names help others to share in the work of reconciliation and pastoral care. Please inform the Rector or Priest Associate if you would like to have names added to the Prayer List, and please also inform them if it is appropriate for names to be removed.
Parishioners interested in serving as greeters at either of the Sunday services or on holidays should be in touch with Nick Downes. He is responsible for the scheduling of these people who are the first members of the parish whom newcomers meet.
LAY EUCHARISTIC MINISTERS
Currently, two members of the parish are licensed by the Bishop of Connecticut to assist the Rector in the regular administration of the Holy Communion to those who cannot attend public services.
The Church School provides Biblically-based education (during the academic year) for children from age five up to the 8th grade. Children attend church with their families, leaving for Church School in the undercroft of the church during the second hymn, and then joining their families again following the Offertory, and so are in church for the celebration of the Eucharist itself.
Each year, on the Saturday prior to Thanksgiving, the parish holds its Christmas Bazaar, where baked goods, hand-made Christmas ornaments, golden elephants, white elephants, toys for children, a door-prize drawing, and lunch are featured. The proceeds from this event benefit the missionary work of St. Andrew’s. Involvement by the entire parish is welcomed, and the efforts are chaired by various members of the parish on a rotating basis. The proceeds benefit the work of the Mission & Outreach Commission. Pat Campbell coordinates the volunteers.
St. Andrew’s is privileged in having many talented musicians among its members. Our Organist and Choir Director, Tom Holcombe, conducts rehearsals of the adult choir throughout the academic year. New members are always welcome.
The Children’s Choir, under the direction of Margie O’Brien, sings several times a year at the 10:30 service.
The Altar Guild is a group of more than a dozen devoted people who are responsible for readying the church for all services of worship, including weddings and funerals. Its members work week by week in teams, and new members are always warmly welcomed. It is directed by Marel Rogers and Candace Conard.
LECTORS AND CHALICE BEARERS
Chalicists for the chapels at both Kent and South Kent Schools, as well as for St Andrew’s Church itself, are licensed through the parish. The clergy of the schools are responsible for those who assist them, and those interested in serving as lectors, licensed lay readers, and licensed chalicists at the church should be in touch with the Rector.
COFFEE AND …
Volunteers are always welcome (and encouraged) to assist with providing light refreshments after worship services. A sign-up sheet is posted on the bulletin board in the kitchen of the Parish House.
Each year during the August Sale Days in Kent, a tag sale is organized to benefit the Capital Fund of the parish. Volunteers are always welcome and needed, and those interested are invited to be in touch with Pat Campbell.
